Can sunglasses for lifeguarding be writtin-off on your taxes?
Because I broke my old sunglasses. Also, how expensive can the sunglasses be that can be writtin-off is there a cutoff point. Extra info: I work in Scottsdale, AZ at a public pool

1. No. 2. Even if you could, you'd have to subtract 2% of your AGI *and* be able to itemize in order for a business deduction to do you any good.

No ,they can't. Only uniform items that can only be worn for your job. You can't write off a suit and tie (even if you don't wear them outside of work). You also can;t write off sunglasses, bathing suits, etc.

Prescription sunglasses can be deducted as a medical expense (provided that you actually need prescription glasses and are not just getting them for tax reasons). There is no employee business expense deduction for items that can be worn both when working and when not working, such as wristwatches or clothing (except for safety equipment and those uniforms that cannot be worn away from work), even if these items are required.
